With trees and flowers coming into leaf and bloom, it's easy to feel the fertile 'greening' energy and more than a little Earth magic.
In May, we enter the magical, creative realm of Venus, Taurus, and the Green Man -- each having a connection to 'sacred matter', experiencing Heaven on Earth, and the abundant, fertile, sensual, magical creative energy evident in and through Nature.
May 5th is Beltane, the more ancient tradition of celebrating the newly blooming fertility of May after the starkness of Winter and ripening potential hinted at in early Spring.
For the ancients, this was not an intellectual or conceptual thing -- when they celebrated fertility, sensuality, and new life coming into bloom, they did that in a celebratory, full-sensory kind of way!
The Beltane celebrations of May and fertility-in-bloom included the sacred signal fire, feasting, dancing, and lots of fun, lusty sensuality and sexuality.
The whole vibe was orgasmic, in honor and gratitude of that same orgasmic creativity that was becoming increasingly evident in Nature all around them.
In May, we're also in the season of Venus in her Taurean expression. The Goddess of Love, beauty, harmony, abundance, magnetizing attraction, sensuality, and co-creation brings it down from the intellect into Earthly expression. Heaven on Earth, in all of the ways you can see, hear, feel, sense, touch, smell, and taste!
Venus asks: "What feels beautiful to you? What gives you joy? What's just oh-so-luscious? What do you love so much it bubbles over into beautiful expression? What does your heart yearn for and desire? " And so on. The more we feel it, the greater that magnetizing attraction and Venusian co-creation.
Venus in her Earth sign of Taurus is also very Earth connected. She doesn't just stop to smell the roses, she plants them, cultivates them, appreciates them, and then collects the fragrant, fallen blooms and creates rose-water!
Like the Goddess Artemis, she adores what is naturally wild in Nature, and in our own truest nature.
And like the Great Mother-Bear Goddess, she doesn't hesitate to stand for it, speak for it, or protect it when she sees someone denigrating it -- she'd just prefer to do that in a beautiful, harmonious kind of way, rather than bonking someone over the head.
Like Sophia-Gaia, Elat, and Shakti, she is the very creative power of Life that surges through and animates and gives life to all things (including each of us).
And like Sophia, Venus teaches us that our heart's desire is a powerfully creative force, as is our kindred-spirit connection with all of Life, including our animal kindreds and Nature herself. Indeed, Nature is an expression and embodiment of the Goddess herself.
And this magical, Venusian month is extended further, when Jupiter moves from fiery-Masculine Aries into lusciously Venusian Taurus on June 4th -- to stay for a whole year, helping us to expand all things Venusian in our lives.
The Masculine complement to Venus in her Taurus Regalia is The Green Man -- sometimes called the Horned Man, Pan, Dionysus, or just, The Wild Man.
This is the Masculine spirit of Nature, the Sacred Masculine that honors the wisdom and embodiment of the Feminine and overflows with yang generosity and protection of it, along with joyful, passionate engagement with it.
There are some lovely reflections online that link Jesus with the Green Man, given Jesus's own self-proclaimed association with Sophia, his respect for the Feminine as it expressed through women (e.g. Mary Magdalene), his emphasis on the present moment and the Big Love, and his abundant references to Nature.
Engaging the Power of the Archetypes
Over the last few years, I've been working more consciously and interactively with Venus, as one of my more prominent power-archetypes, with La Luna, the Moon, alongside Venus in my blueprint. It's an always-amazing, enlivening process!
Like all of the great metaphors, symbols, and stories, these archetypes have their roots woven deeply within our ancestral and soul memory. They're alive in some eras, then go dormant in others, only to be reawakened into our consciousness once again.
And so it is with Venus (Aphrodite to the Greeks), the Green Man, Sophia, and Shakti -- all faces, facets, and feelings bubbling up again from the deep, ancient well of the Divine Feminine, coming alive again as we need to embody the beauty, strength, magic, and wisdom.
Wishing you magical weavings in this very Venusian month!
Venus Blessings,
Jamie
