Great entry. You have identified a real problem spot in many business organizations.

I remember an employer I once worked for, where the culture of urgency was so elevated that if you were seen walking too slowly in a hallway, it was held against you. How ridiculous, right? But the perception of you was affected negatively.

Hopefully, as organizations become more aware of this, we will see a shift from "sense of urgency" addiction to "sense of purpose, engagement, meaning, and joy" in our work.



there is also an interesting daniel goleman dialogue series called 'wired to connnect' in which he discusses the applications of social/emotional intelligence with leading thinkers from a variety of fields. there are free samples of the conversations available on the publisher's website www.morethansound.net, thought it might be of interest.
